Million Dollar Goal Reached!

In a story titled Top Leaders Give Georgia Chamber Preview of Session by Anne Waters dated January 9, 2007 for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Ms. Waters writes: "A sellout crowd of more than 2,500 business and civic leaders and scores of local and state elected officials, packed the Georgia World Congress Center on Tuesday, January 9, to kick off the 2007 session of the Georgia Legislature at the Georgia Chamber’s Eggs & Issues Breakfast, the state’s oldest and largest pre-legislative forum".

"As part of the breakfast program, a check was presented to Gov. Perdue from the Georgia business community for more than $1 million to help fund the Georgia National Guard Family Support Foundation. In early 2006, Gov. Perdue challenged the Georgia business community to contribute to the foundation, which assists the families of Georgia Guard members who are serving on active duty. The Georgia Chamber rallied business leaders to contribute to the fund and it went over its goal".

"Gov. Perdue proudly accepted a check for $1 million, raised by the Georgia business community to be used to help families of Georgians serving on active duty in the National Guard. Shown from (L-R) are: Lt. Gen. David B. Poythress, Adjutant General of Georgia; Gov. Perdue; George Israel; and Mike Worley, representing Georgia Power."
